[1] Consultation / counseling:

  • As a doctor, we are always committed to do a proper consultation by performing dental check up and diagnostic tests; if necessary, to rule out the problem regarding patient’s chief complaint.
  • Other than patient’s complaint, we also take keen interest in complete dental check up to rule out any early signs of oral diseases.
  • By counseling, we always try to develop a positive attitude in patients towards dental treatments, dental health which helps them to improve and maintain their oral health.

[2] Implants

  • It is said that nothing can replace nature’s creation.
  • Same thing applies for teeth also. Once natural teeth are gone, no matter how expensive artificial teeth we get replaced, we still miss the functioning and comfort of the earlier natural tooth which we lost.
  • So the concept of implant has come up, actually to get as close as possible to the functioning and comfort of natural tooth which we lost.
  • Implant is basically made of noble metal which is inserted in to jaw bone at the site of tooth loss. Then the body accepts this implant and there is bone formation surrounding it. Thus, now it acts like a root of a natural tooth. And on this implant, tooth is built up.

[3] Implant supported dentures

  • After the revolutionary invention of implants, we came up with the concept of implant supported dentures which brought a great relief for those who are wearing dentures.
  • Dentures are always troublesome with the patients with reduced gum and bone support. Dentures tend to rock or even come out while chewing and talking.
  • Implant supported dentures serve this purpose. Moreover, it also preserves gums and underlying bone by preventing irregular force distribution while chewing.

[4] Crown / bridges (replacement of missing teeth by fixed prosthesis)

  • Used in situations when few teeth are lost or to be removed and still there are few teeth which remain functional.
  • Provided, the remaining teeth are very much firm, intact and functional.
  • Preferably done in cases when there are teeth present on either side of the space created by one or few lost teeth.
  • Support is taken from teeth present on the either side of the space created by lost teeth, crown is given onto supporting teeth and with this crown artificial teeth are attached and bridge is prepared.

[5] Treatment for extensive decay by RCT (root canal treatment)

  • Tooth has nerves and blood supply which is inside the roots of tooth.
  • So RCT is cleaning of these root canals to clean the infected nerves.
  • When tooth decay stands for longer time because of our negligence, without any treatment, it goes deeper and reaches the nerves inside the root canals. Once it involves nerves, the infection / decay is now systemic, so it has to be treated to save the tooth.
  • Usually, what we know is, if there is decay in tooth; clean it and then fill it with material like cement / sliver. But in this case we have to clean the decay as usual and then we have to clean the nerves also before filling cement / silver.
  • This procedure is done in one or more sittings according to the severity of infection. Every time cleaning is done and dressing is given with medicaments before patient is sent back home.
  • Once the infection is cleaned, filling with cement / silver is done. This completes rct.
  • After RCT, cap / cover / crown is advisable.

[6] Treatment for decay by tooth filling (restoration)

  • A tooth with mild or moderate involvement of decay can be treated by removing decay and then filling the cavity with tooth-colored materials.
  • An x-ray could be taken prior to treatment to confirm the diagnosis.

[7] Orthodontic treatment (for misalignment of teeth)

Why so necessary?!

From medical aspect

  • In irregular teeth, food lodgment is more
  • Cleaning of all tooth surfaces becomes very difficult.
  • Hence, due to insufficient cleaning, ultimately there are more chances of tooth decay and gum problems as well.
  • Functioning of teeth and speech may also alter.

From parental aspect

  • The aesthetics of a child is very much dependent on teeth.
  • A charming face with irregular teeth is definitely a hindrance to a child’s beauty.
  • More importantly, children of 10 to 15years of age are more conscious about their looks and this aspect of a child has an impact on his / herself confidence and personality development.
  • A child with irregular teeth may be reluctant in taking participate in different co-curricular activities in school and indulging socially with his / her friend circle as well.
  • It is better if treatment of done at the age of 12 to 14 years as the jaw bone is in the growing stage. So the teeth are easy to move to the right place in a lesser time period. It can also be done in the later stage of life, but teeth movement takes a longer time as the jaw bone would have become dense by the time.

[8] Cosmetic dentistry:

This particular aspect of dentistry mainly deals with correction of hard tissues (like teeth, bone) and soft tissues (like gums, tongue etc.) which may affect your esthetics.

  • It can be complete or partial dentures
  • Complete dentures
  • When all the teeth are lost, complete dentures are given.
  • It not only serves the purpose of chewing but also, supports musculature and hence prevents wrinkles on lips and checks, helps in speech as well.
  • Made of acrylic materials
  • Partial dentures
  • In certain situations, few teeth are lost or to be removed, and still, there are few teeth that remain functional.
  • In such a case, we can give denture (partial) for only those teeth which are lost.
  • They can be made of acrylic as well as casting metals (cast partial dentures)
  • Cast partial dentures are more accurate and comfortable comparatively.

[10] Wisdom tooth

Every second person in society suffers from wisdom tooth.

Why?!

  • Out of 32 teeth, 28 teeth come out by the age of 12 – 14 years.
  • The rest of 4 teeth (wisdom teeth); each one in four corners come at age of 18- 25 years.
  • So by this time your jaw development is over, 28 teeth are already there. So, no enough space for wisdom teeth to come out.
  • Hence when they try to come out, they try to push adjacent teeth. This causes pain and even sometimes drifting and crowding of adjacent teeth.
  • Upon this, when it is coming out, the surrounding gums become loose and food gets into it. This causes swelling, infection in gums. And pain occurs.
  • The position of wisdom tooth is usually such that it is difficult to maintain hygiene in that area. Upon that, there is no specific role of this wisdom tooth in chewing.
  • So if it troubles, there is no loss in losing it (getting it removed)…!!

[11] Treatment for gum diseases

  • Gum problems could be acute (sudden onset) or chronic (gradually progressive)
  • Gum problems could be puberty-related, pregnancy-related, drug induced, or could be due to local factors like poor oral hygiene, deposits on teeth surface (plaque/calculus), etc.
  • Depending on the type of gum disease and etiologic factors, there could be swollen gums, overgrowth of gums, the recession of gums, etc.
  • Sometimes due to gum diseases, there is adjacent bone loss.

[12] Scaling (tooth cleaning)

Why required?!

  • Because most of us don’t brush twice a day regularly.
  • Proper brushing technique is very complicated, even if known, still difficult to follow. Hence deposits on teeth are inevitable.
  • These deposits so-called plaque/calculus cause bad breath and eventually gum problems (pyuria) and ultimately early loss of teeth.
  • Studies have shown a correlation between heart disorders and poor hygiene of teeth and gums.
  • In our diet, water, saliva; there are minerals that slowly keep depositing on teeth surfaces. On these deposits, food particles easily get stuck, and together it forms hard deposits called calculus which cannot be removed by brushing.
  • It can only be removed by a dentist by doing teeth cleaning (scaling)
  • It is done by a metal tip which vibrates, water spray comes out and with these ultrasonic vibrations; scientifically teeth get cleaned. And it is almost painless.
  • Results are really well defined.

[13] Bleaching:

  • Bleaching is done to get extra shine and brightness to your beautiful smile.
  • It’s a chemical procedure done by applying a bleaching agent onto your teeth' surfaces.
  • It’s a painless procedure.

[14] Dental jewelry:

  • Dental jewelry like diamonds can be placed on teeth.
  • Totally noninvasive/harmless procedure for you and your teeth. Hardly takes 10 minutes to place it and can also be taken out at your wish without causing single damage to your tooth.
  • It gives an extra spark and shine to your smile and extra beauty to your personality which draws almost everyone’s attention…!

  • We take all the necessary measures while extracting (taking out) tooth/teeth to make it a minimal destructive and painless procedure and also to ensure the least post-operative discomfort.

[16] Night guard and sport guard

  • A night guard is used while sleeping, in patients with bruxism (habit of teeth grinding while sleeping).
  • It protects your teeth from being abraded.
  • Sports guard is used during sports to prevent any accidental trauma to your teeth and adjacent soft tissues.

[17] Artificial replacement of eye, ear, nose

  • Missing eye, ear or nose could be a birth defect or due to some accidental trauma.
  • More often these kinds of defects may also cause mental trauma to the patient due to the esthetic concerns.
  • Although the functions of lost parts may not be restored, but the replacement of such kind of artificial prosthesis compensates largely for esthetic concerns.
