- Complete dentures
- When all the teeth are lost, complete dentures are given.
- It not only serves the purpose of chewing but also, supports musculature and hence prevents wrinkles on lips and checks, helps in speech as well.
- Made of acrylic materials
- Partial dentures
- In certain situations, few teeth are lost or to be removed, and still, there are few teeth that remain functional.
- In such a case, we can give denture (partial) for only those teeth which are lost.
- They can be made of acrylic as well as casting metals (cast partial dentures)
- Cast partial dentures are more accurate and comfortable comparatively.
[10] Wisdom tooth
Every second person in society suffers from wisdom tooth.
Why?!
- Out of 32 teeth, 28 teeth come out by the age of 12 – 14 years.
- The rest of 4 teeth (wisdom teeth); each one in four corners come at age of 18- 25 years.
- So by this time your jaw development is over, 28 teeth are already there. So, no enough space for wisdom teeth to come out.
- Hence when they try to come out, they try to push adjacent teeth. This causes pain and even sometimes drifting and crowding of adjacent teeth.
- Upon this, when it is coming out, the surrounding gums become loose and food gets into it. This causes swelling, infection in gums. And pain occurs.
- The position of wisdom tooth is usually such that it is difficult to maintain hygiene in that area. Upon that, there is no specific role of this wisdom tooth in chewing.
- So if it troubles, there is no loss in losing it (getting it removed)…!!
